Police officers reacted to a complaint about a shooting incident, and upon arrival, they found the body of the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest lying on his back halfway out the door of a taxi.

Early on Monday morning, gunmen opened fire at the Vuyani taxi rank in Khayelitsha, killing a taxi driver and injuring two others.

Preliminary information suggests that two armed men approached the Vuyani taxi rank, where they opened fire, killing a taxi driver and wounding two other drivers. They were transported to the hospital for treatment.

A few hours later, at a taxi rank in Ngqwangi Drive, Philippi East, two more people were killed and four were wounded in another shooting.

One taxi driver died on the scene, while another died in the hospital. Three other taxi drivers are in a serious condition in the hospital, while a passenger was also shot. The passenger is said to be in a stable condition.

Police believe the incidents are linked to the ongoing taxi conflict.

Tensions between CODETA and CATA are said to be continuing over the Somerset and Strand taxi route.
