Four exceptional young scientists from Johannesburg and Cape Town have earned the honour of representing South Africa at the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2025. These learners, winners of the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, will present their cutting-edge research projects on the world stage, showcasing the innovation and talent of South Africa’s youth.
Learners to Represent South Africa in the USA
Set to take place from 10 to 16 May 2025 in Columbus, Ohio, USA, ISEF is the world’s largest pre-college STEM competition. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, the event will welcome over 1,800 students from Grades 9 to 12 representing more than 60 countries and nearly every U.S. state.

The South African team will be accompanied by Innocent Marume, the Eskom Expo’s Mpumalanga Provincial Coordinator.

Celebrating Youth Innovation and Scientific Excellence
Acting CEO of the Eskom Development Foundation, Ms Mologadi Motshele, expressed pride in the learners, saying:
“THE INCLUSION OF SOUTH AFRICAN LEARNERS AT ISEF HIGHLIGHTS THE INTERNATIONAL STANDARD OF LOCAL RESEARCH. ESKOM REMAINS COMMITTED TO DEVELOPING FUTURE SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS THROUGH THE ESKOM EXPO.”

Dr Krishnie Naidoo, Eskom Expo Academic Director, added:
“OUR YOUTH ARE ADDRESSING KEY GLOBAL ISSUES SUCH AS SUSTAINABILITY AND INCLUSIVITY. THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS SHOW THERE ARE NO LIMITS WHEN GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY.”
