The four accused of murdering two on-duty law enforcement officials at Sweethome Farm, Samora Machel in 2019, will spend the rest of their lives behind bars.
Police reports reveal that on 04 September 2019 at about 13:00, the Law Enforcement officials were on duty at Sweethome Farm, Vlei squatter camp, Samora Machel, when they were shot by four male suspects who also robbed them of their firearms and fled the scene.
The injured officers were reportedly transported to a medical facility for treatment where they both succumbed to their injuries.
According to police, the investigation was taken over by the Provincial Organised Task team, who arrested three suspects: 22-year-old Ashwin Kennedy, 18-year-old Ndumiso Lutshetu and 36-year-old Bongani Mvamveki.
Further investigation led them to the arrest of the fourth suspect, 35 year old Siyabonga Witbooi.
During the arrests, the suspects were reportedly found in possession of two firearms and ammunition that were stolen from the two Law Enforcement officers.
“The four suspects were brought before court and bail was successfully opposed and they were kept in custody,” added Western Cape Police
The four accused appeared in the Western Cape High Court on Wednesday and were found guilty of two counts of murder. The four were sentenced to two life sentences each and fifteen years imprisonment each for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
