With the annual flu season approaching soon, Western Cape Health and Wellness dietician Tanja Venter says the first line of defence to protect yourself and your family against flu is a healthy lifestyle.

Tanja shares 3 ways to enhance your immunity before flu season:

1. Eat a well-balanced diet
2. Get your flu vaccine
3. Monitor your well-being and stress levels

Shimoney Richter, from Communications, at Western Cape Government Health and Wellness, added, that a healthy lifestyle has many benefits and can help your immune system to fight infections like flu.

Common flu symptoms include:
· headaches,
· body or fever chills,
· sore throat or cough (usually dry),
· weakness and tiredness,
· stuffy or runny nose,
· aching muscles and
· vomiting or diarrhoea (common in children).

Provincial health authorities have made a call for people to boost their immune system, with the flu season, on hand.

Richter says Influenza affects millions of people every year. She says while most people recover easily, others can become seriously ill.

She added that annual vaccination is the most effective way to protect yourself against flu, and serious complications.

You can also get this vaccination for free!
