Another suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting inside the Wynberg Magistrates Court.

The 20-year-old was apprehended yesterday and is facing a charge for the murder of 50-year-old Dingalimoya Cintso outside a courtroom in early April.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa, says the suspect is due in court soon.

“A 20-year-old suspect is expected to appear in [the Wynberg Magistrate’s] court on Friday. [This] brings to five, the number of suspects arrested in the murder investigation,” said Potelwa.

He will be appearing on the same day as the other four accused.

34-year-old Brian Booysen and 22-year-old Wanay Farao, who were arrested on 24 April, are appearing for legal representation. They may possibly be applying for bail as well, which National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the State will oppose.

“We informed the court that both accused are linked to the [Junky Funky Kids gang]. Booysen organised the two firearms that were used in the fatal shooting, and Farao helped to smuggle the firearms into the court building,” said Ntabazalila.

The State believes Booysen and Farao then worked together to dispose of the firearms after the incident. Ntabazalila said the firearms used had not been found until the day of their court appearance on 25 April.

The alleged mastermind, Shireen Mathews and the second accused, Abubaker Adams, will also be appearing.  Adam is expected to get legal representation, like his co-accused.

According to court documents from the 25 April hearing on this matter at the Wynberg Magistrates Court, all the accused face five charges. This includes murder, aiding and abetting in criminal gang activity, as well as the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Matthews faces an additional three charges, related to inciting another person to commit a criminal gang act and the unlawful supply of firearms and ammunition. The latter charges are shared with Booysen, who faces a total of seven charges.
