Festive Lights Switch-On: Weekend Road Closures

With preparations afoot for the Festive Lights Switch-On festival on Sunday, the City of Cape Town has advised that city-goers should be mindful of road closures across the Central Business District.

 

Several road closures come in effect on Saturday, 25 November, with most closures expected on Sunday. All roads will be reopened on Monday at 05:00. These closures will not only have an effect motorists, but MyCiti bus routes as well.

 

 

Further details from the City are as follows:

 

No parking and no stopping

  • No parking will be permitted in Darling Street, between Buitenkant Street and Corporation Street from 20:00 Tuesday, 21 November 2023 to 05:00 Tuesday, 28 November 2023.
  • No parking will be permitted in Darling, Adderley, Lower Plein and Castle Streets and the roads leading off Darling and Adderley Streets from 16:00 Saturday, 25 November 2023 to 05:00 Monday, 27 November 2023.
  • No stopping will be permitted in Parade, Adderley, Parliament, Corporation, Buitenkant, Church, Longmarket and Barrack Streets from 16:00 Saturday, 25 November 2023 to 00:01 Monday, 27 November 2023.
  • Local access only in Parliament Street at Bureau Street, Plein Street at Spin Street and Longmarket Street. No stopping will be enforced from 05:00 Sunday 25 November 2023

 

Special Needs parking

The blue disabled disk will allow parking into designated areas in Buitenkant Street between Longmarket Street and Darling Street. Important notice: This parking is on a first come, first served basis. The viewing area is on the corner of Corporation Street and Darling Street.

 

Public parking

Public parking is free of charge on Sundays. Members of the public can make use of any public parking bays available. Paid parking facilities open to the public can also be considered.

 

MyCiTi last bus

The last MyCiTi bus from Cape Town to Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain will depart at 23:15 from the Civic Centre Station in Hertzog Boulevard.

 

E-Hailing

Drop-off and pick-up points are located in Wale Street, Strand Street and at the Castle in Darling Street
