Three people have tragically lost their lives in an early morning accident on Tuesday, 4 August 2026.

The Western Cape Department of Mobility says the collision occurred on the R101 at Du Toitskloof. The crash involved several vehicles and resulted in temporary road closure.

Western Cape Mobility Chief Director for Traffic Management, Maxine Bezuidenhout, says the closure was put in place to allow emergency services to continue with rescue operations.

“The road remains completely closed while emergency services and law enforcement continue with rescue, recovery and investigation operations. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes via the N1 through the Huguenot Tunnel, the N2 via Sir Lowry’s Pass, or the R46 via Nuwekloof Pass.”

Motorists and road users are further urged to remain patient, follow the directions of officials on site, and exercise extreme caution in the area.
