City removing election posters

Published on

The City has removed 262 election posters, which were illegally on poles in the Metro. Meanwhile, another 50 have since been reported to the City and plans are underway to have them taken down.

Political parties had until the 18th of June to remove their election posters from street poles in the City, following the conclusion of the 2024 National Election.
Since the deadline, a contractor hired by the City has removed 262 election posters.

Additional voting posters were taken down

On the 24th of June, there was a blitz and an additional 252 posters were removed by the City’s Environmental Management Department officials.
So far, most of the posters have been removed especially from main routes and scenic drives.
According to officials, political parties were given enough notice of the intention that the placards would be removed from poles, at a cost to their own pocket.

The City had earlier warned it would cost political parties R134,10 per poster to remove.

Keep Cape Town Beautiful

Officials have revealed that posters of about 20 parties were taken down. The City has thanks everyone who supports it efforts to keep Cape Town beautiful.
If you should see a poster in your neighbourhoods or while driving around the Mother City, you can still contact the Municipality.
Send an e-mail with the specific street location and suburb to Dimitri.georgeades@capetown.gov.za
Officials will try to remove the posters, as soon as practically possible.
