Cape Town police have confirmed that the death of an elderly woman, whose body was found in the city centre, was not the result of foul play.

On Thursday, officers attached to the Cape Town Central SAPS were called to the corners of Strand and Long Streets, where the woman’s body was discovered near a fast-food outlet.

“At about 16:00 on the Corners of Long and Strand Streets an unidentified elderly woman was found deceased,” said Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk.

She was at first unidentified, and police opened an inquest docket for further investigation.

Van Wyk advised that it was later confirmed that the deceased was a 68-year-old resident who lived with her daughter in the Bo-Kaap.

He added that the results of a medical examination on Friday revealed that she had died of natural causes.
