A 63-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates Court today in connection with the shocking murder of a 79-year-old woman in Bellville South.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, FC Van Wyk, confirmed that a murder case was opened after the elderly victim was found decapitated at her home on David Street last Thursday, sending shockwaves through the community.

“This office can confirm that a murder case was registered following the discovery of the decapitated body of a 79-year-old woman at her residence on David Street, Bellville South. The circumstances surrounding this horrific incident are under investigation.”

The Bellville South Community Police Forum (CPF) has since urged residents to remain calm and allow authorities to carry out their investigation without interference, as the incident has deeply shaken the neighborhood.

“We can confirm that the suspect is believed to be known to the family. The circumstances surrounding this tragic event remain unclear and form part of an ongoing SAPS investigation. We appeal to the community to give SAPS the necessary space to conduct a thorough investigation,” the CPF said in a statement.
