Cyberbullying is also known as social media bullying and is one of the most prevalent forms of bullying.

The harmful aspect of this type of bullying is that hundreds (if not thousands) of people are able to share or like the post. The department has made resources available to highlight the harm such a post can inflict. The harm is caused by people simply liking, sharing or commenting on it.

A set of online videos has been made available to show learners and members of the general public, how to #StopTheShare of this type of harmful content.

People and learners have also been asked to be responsible when receiving a harmful post and to stop it from being shared. This can be done by either deleting the post or reporting the harmful content.

The campaign was initiated in memory of a Limpopo school learner, Lufuno Mavhunga. Lufuno, a Grade 10-learner was hit by another learner and this incident was captured on camera. Subsequently, it was shared on several social media platforms. The video went viral, and Lufuno sadly took her own life shortly after the incident.
