The Western Cape High Court has sentenced the man convicted of the rape and murder of eight-year-old Daniel Jamneck to life imprisonment for both crimes on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.

The court also sentenced the convicted man to ten years’ imprisonment for the rape of another victim, Caren Brown, and eight years for the sexual assault of Daniel. The additional sentences will run concurrently with the life sentence for Daniel’s murder.

Daniel was raped and murdered in June 2023 while attending a sleepover at a friend’s home in Kraaifontein.

Welcoming the sentence, Action Society said justice had finally been served for Daniel and his loved ones but warned that the case also exposed serious shortcomings within the criminal justice system.

However, the society stressed that the organisation’s work would continue long after the sentencing.

“Justice has finally been served. But we will continue our fight to expose the failures within the criminal justice system that allowed this accused to remain free and continue his crime spree, ultimately ending in Daniel’s death,” Action Society’s Juanita du Preez added.

The court also ordered that the convicted man be placed on the National Register for Sex Offenders, permanently banned from working with children, and barred from possessing a firearm.
