The winter rains are yet to arrive in Cape Town, and the people and some residents in Entembeni, Khayelitsha have received a donation that will assist them to keep warm
The donation includes clothes and shoes from the Anant and Vaneshree Singh Foundation, the International Olympic Committee, and in partnership with Smile 90.4 FM.
The community leaders and residents in Khayelitsha received the donation from Quinton Adams, the founder of The Shack Builder NGO. Adams and his team help families in informal settlements build better structures, that are more durable, insulated, and built on solid foundations.
Adams said the roots of his NGO started 20 years ago when he was assisting a boy who had been diagnosed with ADHD. Adams is a qualified psychologist and it was while he was visiting the boy in an informal settlement, he realised he wanted to do more.
The donations from the Anant and Vaneshree Singh Foundation are part of his ongoing work in informal settlements where he assists residents with their immediate needs. Adams works with community leaders and resident committees to ensure that they motivate who needs assistance and based on that he builds or rebuilds homes in informal settlements.
