Listen: A digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate will soon be launched

Published on

The Department of Health says within the next few weeks it will launch a digital vaccination certificate that can be used as proof of a Covid-19 vaccination.

The Minister of Health made the announcement this morning and cautioned that this certificate would not be used as way to limit South Africans freedom of movement.

However, as government, we have no intention to require people in future to produce this certificate to access public services. They may be useful to access entertainment spots and definitely not essential and public services.
Dr Joe Phaahla says the certificate will be protected from fraud and vaccinated individuals will be able to upload it to their  smartphones.

He says they want to launch this as soon as possible.

Phaahla says the certificate will meet international standards.
