The office of the Provincial Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile says detectives are currently in Saldanha Bay to investigate recent claims made by a community member regarding the alleged whereabouts of Joshlin Smith.

The nature of the information has not been disclosed, with some reports indicating that a community member found bloodied clothes.

A convoy of police vehicles, which a K9 unit, descended on the Diazville dunes on Thursday.

Police say that at this stage, no tangible evidence linked to Joshlin has been found.

However, the police have reiterated that all information received is treated with seriousness and thoroughly investigated.

Captain Andre Traut says that since her disappearance on 19 February 2024 from her home in Middelpos, SAPS has pursued numerous leads provided by the public and the circumstances surrounding her case.

“All information is rigorously assessed for credibility and evidential value, but unfortunately, none has yielded a breakthrough.”

He says the investigation into Joshlin’s disappearance remains open and active, despite the sentencing of three accused in May 2024.

“Detectives continue to follow up on all information, with extensive efforts undertaken both locally and abroad.”

Traut says any new information is welcome, and he has assured the public that all leads will be thoroughly investigated.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS.
