Denied! Portugal falls short of first World Cup win

Georgia and Portugal played to a thrilling 18-18 draw. Portugal initially trailed 13-0 but made a remarkable comeback, taking an 18-13 lead. Raffaele Storti scored two tries for Portugal, and Samuel Marques contributed with penalties and a conversion.

 

Georgia started strongly, scoring an early try through Akaki Tabutsadze. The game was closely contested, with Georgia leading 13-0 after a penalty kick. Portugal fought back and scored a try through Storti. They received a setback when Francisco Fernandes was given a yellow card just before halftime, leaving Georgia with a 13-5 lead at the break.

 

Portugal showed resilience in the second half, scoring penalties to level the match at 13-13. Storti then scored his second try, putting Portugal ahead 18-13. Georgia fought hard and managed to equalize with a try in the 79th minute, making it 18-18. Both teams missed conversion attempts and a penalty, leading to the exciting draw.
