A drug dealer was stopped in his tracks yesterday when members attached to Operation Prosper arrested a 45-year-old man in Delft.

The suspect was pulled over during a stop and search operation in Buczane Street, N2 Gateway. The South African Police Service (SAPS) says following a search of his vehicle, several mandrax tablets and money were found in his possession.

“They stopped and searched a silver Honda Civic vehicle and the occupant and found ten mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be the proceeds of crime in the vehicle.”

SAPS confirmed that further investigation led to the seizure of drugs worth over R2 million in Stikland, Bellville.

“At the facility the members found 46 packs containing 1000 mandrax tablets each and a total of 46 000 units of mandrax tablets, with an estimated street value of R2 760 000,00.”

The suspect is set to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court once charged.

Meanwhile, in the early hours of this morning, a 51-year-old man was arrested for drug possession and drug dealing.

His arrest comes after the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team in collaboration with the Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team acted on a tip-off received about suspected drug activities at a residence in Milnerton.

SAPS says 1000 mandrax tablets were found at the house.

The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
