Counterfeit Lego worth R1.5 million seized in Durbanville raid

Counterfeit Lego games valued at R1.5 million were seized during a joint police operation in the Durbanville Industrial area on Wednesday morning.

 

The operation was led by the Western Cape Provincial Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team, in collaboration with the Essential Infrastructure Task Team and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), also known as the Hawks.

 

According to Police Captain Frederick C. van Wyk, a search warrant was executed at a premises in Evolution Crescent, Darwin Park, where the counterfeit goods were discovered.

 

Representatives from Oversheds Sutherland, the official brand protectors of Lego, as well as Lego brand managers, were present during the operation to verify and assist with identifying the fake products.

Although no arrests were made during the raid, police confirmed that a criminal case has been opened at the Durbanville Police Station and investigations are ongoing.

 

Van Wyk has reiterated the police’s commitment to fighting against counterfeit and illicit goods by ensuring that such items are removed from society.
