Cosatu in the Western Cape has called on its members to abide by the law when they take to the streets of Cape Town tomorrow. The trade union federation says marshalls will be on duty to prevent any criminality. Workers will be marching to the Civic Centre, the Provincial Legislature and Parliament to demand action on violent crime and to protest high fuel prices. Provincial Secretary, Malvern de Bruyn says communities are terrorised by criminals and it feels that nothing is being done.
Meanwhile: Premier Alan Winde says Cosatu’s protest against high crime rates, is misguided. Winde says law-abiding residents are fed up with crime, but staging a protest is not the way, to go about drawing attention to the issue.
