City’s long-term water security boosted with first groundwater into Steenbras Dam

Published on

The City’s Directorate of Water says the Table Mountain-aquifer water-project, will further boost Cape Town’s water-security.

The project, situated next to the Steenbras Dam, is now in operation and pumps ground-water from the aquifer, delivering millions of litre of water to the City’s water-supply.

Once fully-completed, it will provide up to 8-percent of the Mother City’s daily water-need.

Mayco-member at the Directorate, Xanthea Limberg says the project forms part of the Cape Town Water Strategy, launced during the 2016/2017 drought.
