‘City-wide water shutdown is fake news’, says City of Cape Town

The City of Cape Town has dispelled reports on social media about a city-wide water shutdown as fake news. The messages have been circulating on various social media platforms including WhatsApp groups.

 

The municipality’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation Zahid Badroodien has assured residents that all proactive maintenance would be communicated well in advance if this were to ever happen anywhere in Cape Town at any point throughout the course of today.

“This is fake news. There is no planned full day water outage. All proactive maintenance is communicated. A week in advance to relevant stakeholders, which includes media outlets that councillors and communities throughout various communication platforms. I want to dispel this fake news story and reassure residents that there is no full day water outage planned for our city today,” Badroodien asserted.
