The City of Cape Town has officially completed two new MyCiTI bus depots, paving the way for the long-awaited expansion of services to Khayelitsha and Mitchells Plain.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says the rollout marks a major milestone in the City’s commitment to improving public transport, backed by a R10 billion investment — the largest metro-led public transport project in South Africa.
“The MyCiTi service expansion is one of the pillars of Cape Town’s record infrastructure investments, totaling R40 billion over the next three years, with 75% of this investment directly benefiting lower-income households.”
Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility Rob Quintas says the completion of the depots is a crucial step toward connecting more residents to reliable and affordable transport options in the City.
“These depots will be the beating heart of the new route expansion. They will help deliver improved, universally accessible mobility, create jobs, boost economic growth, and build better futures for our residents.”
