With the end-of-year matric examinations set to start next week, a number of City libraries have made arrangements to assist learners, and matriculants in particular, by creating dedicated spaces to study and prepare for their final exams.
According to the City’s Community Services and Health Directorate, the matric support programme offers space and access to resources, including study guides, textbooks, free stationery and the online SmartCape service where they can access past exam question papers.
City’s libraries also offer the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), which is available remotely via the Internet and will save readers time when looking for library materials. It can also be accessed inside the library.

Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, has encouraged matriculants to make use of these study areas at their local library and wished students the best of luck in their preparation for the exams.
“In just a few weeks’ time, learners in other grades will also start preparing for their year-end exams in earnest, and I want to remind them that these resources are at their disposal too,’ added Higham.
Individual libraries will curate services for learners based on their particular layout and the availability of space.

Higham added that some libraries may also operate on a booking system or have time limits on study sessions, based on demand.
Learners are reminded to check in with their local library and its particular arrangements.
“We know what a stressful time the exams can be, and so our libraries are doing everything possible to give learners the edge.”
