City firefighters are turning up the heat for International Firefighters’ Day 2025. The members of the City of Cape Town’s Fire & Rescue Service will take part in a free, family-friendly celebration at Erica Park in Belhar on Sunday, 4 May 2025, to commemorate the day. The public will get an exciting, behind-the-scenes look at the bravery and skill of our firefighting heroes. The action will take place from 10 am to 3 pm.

International Firefighters’ Day is a global tribute to firefighters who risk their lives to protect others. It’s also a moment to remember those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice. The City’s commemorative event promises an unforgettable experience, including live firefighting demonstrations, vehicle extrication displays, and even the chance to try on firefighter gear or take part in fitness challenges.

International Firefighters’ Day 2025

 

The Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, will be there to open the event. He says that often, the only time residents meet the firefighters is during an emergency.

“This day offers a rare and inspiring opportunity to see the dedication behind the uniform” he added.

The City’s Fire & Rescue Services have responded to 20,349 incidents between October 2024 and April 2025. This averages over 100 responses daily.
