City accused of using same tactics as Trump to hike Cape Town tariffs

The GOOD party has accused Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis of using the same formulas used by US president Donald Trump when it comes to calculating tariff increases in the metro.

Several political parties have vented their outrage and disagreement at what they call the City of Cape Town’s exorbitant rates, water, and electricity hikes. The GOOD party’s Axolile Notywala was speaking during this week’s city council meeting.

“Some of us are starting to wonder if Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis is using similar formulas used by Donald Trump and his team in calculating the absurd tariffs that will see Cape Town residents suffering,” said Notywala.

But Hill-Lewis has maintained that the Mother City remains to be the most cost-effective metro.

“Cape Town is still the cheapest in the country with the most successful, working services and most investment. So we really thank our residents and taxpayers in Cape Town who are contributing to making Cape Town an example of a functional government,” said Hill-Lewis.
