Cederberg floods, Citrusdal cut off

The Cederberg Municipality says there have been massive floods in their region. At this time, there is no access to Citrusdal. The Access Road to and from Citrusdal has washed away, leaving no access to the town. Traffic officials are stopping all vehicles on both sides of the road.

The Municipal Manager says 88 people have been evacuated from the Riverview Informal settlement. They are being housed in the Oranjeville Sports Hall.

At this stage, the road to Elandskloof has been closed. Local traffic officers say the Bo-river and Hexrivier roads are open at this stage.

 

Children who live outside of the town of Citrusdal could not access schools this morning. The Grade 4 – 7 learner exams have thus been postponed to Monday, 19 June 2023.

Eskom technicians are at this time, busy working on repairing faults. The electricity supply to Citrusdal and parts of Clanwilliam has been interrupted due to an Eskom fault.

 

The Municipal Manager further added that displaced people who were living in temporary housing structures on the sports ground in Wupperthal are now being housed in the Eendrag Community Hall.

 

Residents are asked to cooperate with authorities and to stay clear of roads and affected areas.

 

Stay off the roads if you can

The municipality is assessing the municipal infrastructure across the area. At the same time, officials are organising food parcels and blankets for displaced /affected persons.
