Carpool Karaoke: teary final episode

Published on

Host of the Late Late Show, James Cordon, and singer, Adele, were brought to tears as they shot the final episode of ‘Carpool Karaoke’.

In the long-running segment, Cordon invites celebrities to carpool to work with him as they sing along to (mostly) their own songs. Cordon has been the host of the popular late-night television show since 2015 and after 8 years have decided to ditch the cue cards and hang up his cloak.

The final carpool episode with Adele, released on Monday, was recorded ahead of Cordon’s last show on Thursday.

The Grammy award-winning singer surprised Cordon at home by waking him up from his slumber and smashing cymbals over his bed.

He then agreed to let her drive him to work at the CBS studios despite her being (in her own words) “not a brilliant driver”. During the episode, they discussed everything, from how ‘Carpool Karaoke’ started, to their incredible friendship, and even shed some tears over his decision to return to the UK.

Why is James Cordon leaving the Late Late Show?

During a show in April of last year, Cordon announced that he signed his final ‘one-year contract’ to continue hosting the show. During his announcement, he admitted to it being one of the most difficult decisions that he had to make.

According to reports, Cordon revealed that he and his wife, Julia Carey, want to raise their kids in the UK after them spending most of their life in Los Angeles. The talk show host also said he wants to end the show on a high note instead of dragging it on for too long.

During an interview, he said that he is both excited and terribly scared about his decision to leave the show but he is confident that it is the right decision. His focus now will be on family and resetting his life in the UK.
