Three people suspected of attempting to scam tourists with fraudulent card transactions have been arrested near Table Mountain.

According to SANParks, the suspects were reportedly operating from a white BMW in the Lion’s Head area. They are alleged to have used a fake card machine to scam tourists, taking their credit cards under the pretence of completing payments.

Authorities were notified, enabling the SANParks Sea, Air, Mountain (SEAM) team and Camps Bay City Improvement District (CID) to track the vehicle, which was later located by Metro Police in Green Point.

The suspects were apprehended on charges related to the possession of a card scamming device and driving with false number plates.

According to officials, the attempted transactions were unsuccessful, and no financial losses were reported by the victims.

Visitors to the park are advised to remain cautious and to report suspicious behaviour to authorities.

“SANParks and its partners remain committed to ensuring the safety of all visitors in and around Table Mountain National Park,” said SANParks spokesperson, JP Louw.
