Capetonians advised to take cover ahead of expected heavy rains

Following a few days of warmer temperatures, Capetonians can again expect heavy rainfall from Thursday night into early Friday morning.

 

The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall, which could lead to localised flooding of roads and vulnerable settlements.

 

The forecasted adverse weather is expected over the Cederberg, Bergrivier, Swartland, City of Cape Town, the Cape Winelands, Theewaterskloof and Overstrand municipalities

 

Capetonians can expect heavy rainfall

 

Additionally, the weather services have issued a yellow level 1 warning for damaging interior winds. This could lead to longer travel times as well as localised problems for high-sided vehicles.

 

These strong winds are expected over the southern parts of West Coast District, Cape Winelands, City of Cape Town, Overberg, Garden Route and Central Karoo on Thursday evening into Friday morning.

 

At the same time, a yellow level 2 warning for damaging wind and waves leading to difficulty in navigation at sea is expected from Thursday afternoon between Lambert’s Bay and Cape Agulhas, spreading to Plettenberg Bay and Alexander Bay on Friday afternoon, persisting into Saturday.

 

The SAWS has forecasted very cold conditions are expected in places over the interior of the Western Cape and Namakwa District interior in the Northern Cape on Friday, with possible daytime temperatures of 10°C and below.
