Cape Town Named Best Long-Haul City Break by British Travellers

Published on

Cape Town has once again solidified its status as a top global destination, earning the title of Best Long-Haul City Break in a recent survey by the UK-based consumer advocacy group, Which?.

The accolade comes after British travellers ranked their experiences in cities outside Europe, placing Cape Town ahead of major destinations such as Tokyo, Sydney, Dubai, and Los Angeles.

The survey, conducted among 1,500 Which? members evaluated nearly 2,500 international locations based on seven key categories: food and drink, accommodation, cultural and tourist attractions, shopping, ease of getting around, lack of crowds, and value for money. Cape Town’s unique combination of adventure, culture, and affordability helped it secure the top spot.

A City That Has It All

Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, noted that Cape Town stood out because of its all-encompassing appeal.

“Some cities are one-trick ponies, but the standout destinations in this year’s survey have it all – each offering unique cultural sights, top-class food and drink, and even sublime scenery.”

The victory follows another recent accolade for the city: being named Time Out’s Best City in the World for 2025. With these back-to-back recognitions, Cape Town has cemented itself as a must-visit destination for travellers worldwide.

From its breathtaking natural beauty to its vibrant culinary and cultural scene, Cape Town continues to captivate visitors. Whether it’s watching the sunset from Signal Hill, indulging in fresh seafood in Hout Bay, or exploring the city’s nightlife, Cape Town offers world-class experiences at a fraction of the cost of other leading global destinations.

A British traveller who participated in the survey remarked, “Cape Town is probably the world holiday destination where your pound will go furthest.”

A Destination for Art, Culture, and Heritage

Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, described the city as a “living, breathing masterpiece of art, culture, and heritage.”

He highlighted Cape Town’s world-class art scene, from its cutting-edge galleries to its vibrant street murals, which provide a feast for the eyes and endless content for social media.

“Cape Town’s past isn’t something you read in a guidebook – it’s an experience you feel the moment you walk through our streets.”

Tourism Driving Economic Growth

Beyond its appeal to travellers, Cape Town’s recognition as a global travel leader plays a crucial role in boosting the local economy and creating jobs. James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, emphasized the economic benefits of tourism, stating, “What makes Cape Town so special is that it’s not just a place to visit – it’s a place to experience. Tourism fuels job creation and economic growth, benefiting locals and visitors alike.”

With its continued global recognition, Cape Town has proven itself as not just a top travel destination but also a city that offers an unparalleled blend of adventure, culture, and affordability.

As travellers seek unique and enriching experiences, Cape Town is emerging as the city everyone is talking about in 2025.
