Cape Town International Airport, along with the King Shaka International Airport in KwaZulu-Natal, have been rated as some of the best getaways in the world at the 2025 Skytrax World Airport Awards.

The 2025 Skytrax awards were held on Wednesday, during the Passenger Terminal EXPO in Madrid, Spain. The awards are based on feedback from passengers of over 100 nationalities, who evaluated their experiences across more than 575 airports globally between August 2024 and February 2025.

The survey assesses key performance indicators across the entire passenger journey – from check-in, arrivals and transfers to shopping, security, and gate departure.

According to Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Cape Town International Airport received three major accolades, namely Best Airport in Africa, Best Airport Staff Service in Africa, and Cleanest Airport in Africa.

Meanwhile, King Shaka International Airport in Durban was recognised as the Best Regional Airport in Africa.

ACSA CEO, Mpumi Mpofu, said in a statement that these awards are a reflection of the dedication of airport teams and the faith that passengers continue to place in the country’s airports.

“Our goal is to provide a seamless, safe and enjoyable travel experience for all who pass through our airports. These recognitions affirm that we are on the right path and inspire us to continue raising the bar,” said Mpofu.

Following the announcement, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde congratulated the Cape Town International Airport team and said this opportunity can be used to drive even more domestic and international tourism to the province.

In another recognition of excellence, the InterContinental Hotel at O.R. Tambo International Airport was named Best Airport Hotel in Africa.
