Camps Bay police are seeking the public’s assistance to identify the suspect believed to be behind the attack of a hiker on Table Mountain almost two weeks ago.

Police have opened an assault case for investigation after the woman was approached and attacked by the suspect while hiking up a trail on Table Mountain on 06 July 2025 at around 12:40.

According to police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana, preliminary information suggests that the victim was accosted by an unknown man who allegedly picked up a rock and attacked the victim, hitting her multiple times on the head.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene when he noticed two other females approaching to rescue the female hiker who suffered serious injuries to the head and eye.

The victim’s husband later revealed that she had lost 50% of her vision in her left eye after a 4-hour-long operation.

Following the incident, the South African National Parks expressed their shock at the brutality and senselessness of the attack and wished the victim a speedy recovery.

“Our rangers were called to the scene and conducted first aid on the victim. Two rangers stayed with the victim while the others searched for the suspect. Camps Bay CID also responded and joined the search,” said Charles Phahlane, Senior Communications Manager/SANParks

Camps Bay police have created a facial composition of the suspect believed to have attacked the woman.

According to Manyana, the motive for the attack is still unknown at this stage, as nothing was taken from the victim.

Police have appealed to anyone who may have information regarding the suspect to contact the investigating officers, Constable Keenen Schutters or Warrant Officer Jerome Leste Matthews on 0815524066/0814326150.
