The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is making an urgent appeal for witnesses to come forward, following an animal cruelty incident at Sunrise Beach.
The SPCA responded to an incident off Baden Powell Drive on Wednesday 1 July, and found a dog with its front and back legs bound.
It was reported that the animal was “kicked” by three men, who also had other dogs attack it.
The SPCA said a group of children saw the incident, and their father reported it.
“Their father drove straight to the beach but by the time he arrived, the men and their dogs were gone. Only the broken dog remained as he was left bleeding and bound on the sand. The father stayed with him, called the SPCA and sent us a video,” read the SPCA’s statement.
Inspector Yaseen Abraham said that when he arrived and tried to comfort the dog, it looked “more than scared, he looked defeated”.
The SPCA’s spokesperson, Belinda Abraham, said the injuries the dog had sustained were so severe that the dog had to be put down.
“The victim was a tan, white and black male crossbreed. There was a chain around his neck with a padlock on it. He had multiple fractures to several of his limbs and multiple wounds on his body consistent with being attacked by other dogs,” said Abraham.
With the perpetrators still on the loose, the SPCA is urging anyone who may have been on Sunrise Beach that day and may have seen any of the men or are familiar with the dog, to contact them.

Reports can be made anonymously.
“Without witnesses, we cannot seek justice for this dog, and that is something Inspector Yaseen Abrahams is determined to achieve… Even the smallest bit of information can make all the difference,” said Abraham.
