Cableway Reopens just in time for Tourism Month

Published on

At least 7 000 tickets were sold for the reopening of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway on Monday, which saw temperatures soar to 30 degrees in the Mother City as Spring made an early arrival.

The Cableway reopened after seven weeks of extensive maintenance, which included the replacement of the track ropes, the overhauling of the hanging and running gear, all while adhering to strict Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications.

The Executive Director of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC), Selma Hercules, says it’s all part of their ongoing commitment to safety, quality, and excellence.

“Tourism Month is our chance to shine,” Hercules continued.

“We invite both locals and international visitors to rediscover the breathtaking beauty of Table Mountain and enjoy the best views in the city from our state-of-the-art Cableway.”

The opening coincided with the start of Tourism Month, with the revamped cableway expected to bolster tourism numbers in the province. The reopening could not have been planned for a better day, as it felt like Cape Town was casting off the winter chill.

Managing Director Wahida Parker has some good news for July and August babies, announcing that South Africans who celebrated their birthdays during the Cableway’s annual maintenance period have until 30 September 2024 to collect their free Cableway birthday ticket.

Simply present your valid South African ID at the Lower Station ticket office.

Premier Alan Winde visited the Cableway to celebrate the reopening.

“Over a million tourists visit the Cableway each year, and they have sold 7000 tickets just for today,” Winde remarked. “Last year we broke all tourism records with tourists coming into the Western Cape.”

The team at TMACC has put together some top tips for your visit:
