Eleven people have been left displaced after a fire destroyed a house in Bramble Way, Bonteheuwel, today.

City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, which destroyed four informal structures and damaged three formal dwellings and two informal structures.

“One person was treated for smoke inhalation on the scene, and a total of 11 people were left displaced. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.”

Ward Councillor Angus Mckenzie appealed to the public to support the affected families.

“Unfortunately, the fire caused extensive structural damage, and several families have been left with almost nothing. I want to appeal to our residents, friends, loved ones, and the broader community: please rally around these families. Let us help them rebuild what has been taken from them and stand with them during this incredibly difficult time.”

The City has not yet confirmed the cause of the fire, and authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
