E-hailing company, Bolt, says it has blocked the driver that is allegedly involved in assaulting two women in Table View over the weekend.
Police say a case of grievous assault was opened on Tuesday, in connection with the incident that allegedly occurred on Saturday, 4 May. Spokesperson, Captain Frederick Van Wyk, says reports suggest a group of people got into a heated argument with a Bolt driver, after he refused to drop them at their destination. Van Wyk says the driver is said to have been concerned for his safety.
“A group of friends arranged for a Bolt driver to pick them up in Monte Vista to be taken to DuNoon (Milnerton). The driver wanted to drop them off at a fuel station near the entrance to DuNoon, as he said it was unsafe for him to go into Du Noon. When he asked for payment, the application did not accept the payment and the driver was asked to take them to an ATM.”
After taking them to the ATM, and receiving payment, Van Wyk says the driver took the passengers to Table View SAPS. But they were apparently not dropped off in Du Noon, even after being instructed to do so.
“An argument ensued, and when the occupants wanted to get out, the driver allegedly stabbed two passengers aged 21 and 20 (both female). No arrest as yet, investigations continues.”
Bolt spokesperson, Sandra Buyole, says the company is deeply disturbed by the incident, and took immediate action by blocking the driver.
Buyole says it has been in touch with the “riders” to offer medical assistance and counselling, and that the company’s safety representative is available for further support. She added that Bolt will fully cooperate with police in their investigations.
“Bolt will fully cooperate with the South African Police Service’s investigation into this incident, providing any information possible that may lead to an arrest and conviction of the perpetrators. Bolt remains committed to providing a safe and reliable transport option for all our users.”
