The body of a missing Gqeberha woman, Desiree Baartman has been found in a stormwater drain.
The 57-year-old woman’s body was recovered late last night near the Jagtersvlakte area. Baartman was reported missing last week and her former husband, Johnny Baartman returns to court today where he is faces a charge of murder and defeating the ends of Justice.
The Police’s Priscilla Naidu has the details:
“At about 21:00 last night, SAPS Betheldorp detectives with the assistance of the K9 Search and Rescue and Diving Unit, recovered her body which was thrown down a 3,7 metre storm water drain. An autopsy will be done to determine the exact cause of death,” says Naidu.
It’s understood the discovery of her body was made mere hours after a prayer session was held at her home in Nagel Street, Extension 29 in Bethelsdorp, to pray for her safe return. The estranged couple had shared a home following their split.
The accused was apprehended over the weekend. This after forensic analysis of their home revealed “foul play” in the disappearance of the deceased. A firearm was also seized during his arrest. Baartman was last seen on Friday 9 June, and was reported missing by her ex-partner last week Wednesday.
