Body found along Sea Point shore

A police investigation is seeking to establish the circumstances of a man’s death, after his body washed up on the shore in Sea Point.

The unidentified male was found in the water near the Sea Point Pavilion on Sunday.

Western Cape police spokesperson FC Van Wyk confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. Van Wyk said detectives estimate him to have been in his late 30s or early 40s.

“No one saw him getting into the water. The circumstances surrounding his death are being investigated. Sea Point police registered an inquest. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” said Van Wyk.

Local authorities and emergency services were deployed to the scene shortly after the discovery was made.

Ward councillor Nicola Jowell described the incident as tragic.

“The only indication is that the person has been in the water for quite some time. But there is no other information at this stage,” said Jowell at the time of the incident.

The incident follows several recent deaths along the Sea Point beachfront. In a previous case reported by SmileFM in September, the body of a 29-year-old man was found at Sunset Beach, with police investigating a possible drowning. In August, the body of an unidentified man was found at Broken Bath Beach, and another man’s body was discovered along the promenade with a gunshot wound.
