Bloody weekend in Kraaifontein: Three shot dead, one stabbed to death

Published on

Kraaifontein police are investigating four counts of murder, an attempted murder, as well as a rape, following three separate shooting incidents in Wallacedene in the early hours of Sunday morning, as well as a stabbing death in Bloekombos on Saturday.

In the first shooting, at approximately 01:00 on Sunday morning, a 35-year-old man was gunned down in the Mhongqo informal settlement.

In another incident close by, a man was shot and wounded. Meanwhile, his female companion was raped between 02:00 and 03:00, just 30 metres from the first shooting incident.

Then, at approximately 3:14, two men estimated between the ages of 25 and 30 were shot and killed not far from the two previous scenes.

The motive for the shooting incidents is the subject of the initiated police investigations.

Meanwhile, a man died on arrival at the Kraaifontein hospital after he was stabbed in the chest in the COVID informal settlement in Bloekombos, early on Saturday evening.

This murder has, in previous reports, been erroneously recorded as the attempted murder on Sunday morning.

No arrests have been effected yet. Additional police officers have been deployed to the area.

The area has been gripped by violent crime this week, which saw three double murders and three vigilante killings, bringing the total death toll since Tuesday to thirteen.

One suspect has been arrested thus far for one of Tuesday night’s double murders.

Meanwhile, in Mfuleni, a brazen triple murder was also recorded on Friday night. It was caught on CCTV cameras, and the video has been widely shared. Smile FM will not be sharing the video due to its graphic nature.
