The National Treasury has announced that the VAT hike will be withdrawn. Treasury released a statement in the early hours of Thursday morning, announcing that the proposed increase to VAT, announced in the March budget, will not go ahead next week. Treasury said the decision follows extensive consultations with political parties, and “careful consideration of the recommendations of the parliamentary committees”.
