    A surprise raid at Pollsmoor Prison on Wednesday night has exposed serious security lapses and widespread contraband smuggling.   Led by Correctional Services Commissioner Makgothi Thobakgale, officials seized more than 100 cellphones, 300 packets of dagga, mandrax pills, tik, and even an illegal television.   One cellphone contained WhatsApp messages linking an inmate to a known gang member outside the prison.   The Passenger Railway Agency of South Africa has announced train fare adjustments as of 1 August 2025.   Single fares on Metrorail will increase by R2,50 in zones 1 and 2, while single fare prices for longer train rides – zones 3 and 4 – remain unchanged.   Weekly fares, between Monday and Friday, will increase by between R5 and R15 depending on the zone.   Buying a monthly ticket remains the cheapest option,
