  Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has announced that 237 social housing units are to be built in the inner city as part of the City’s affordable housing drive, following Council’s approval of the final release of City-owned land known as the ‘Fruit & Veg’ site.   The 3,300m2 property, currently being used by Food Lover’s Market, is located between Kent and Bloemhof Streets, right on the edge of District Six and the CBD.

    Western Cape police have confirmed that two people died following a mass shooting incident in Imizamo Yethu, part of Hout Bay, on Thursday night.   Spokesperson, Captain Frederick van Wyk, said that a group of male victims came under attack on OR Tambo Road at 20:15.   “[The incident] claimed the lives of two adult males and the injuring of five males aged between 22 and 43,” said Van Wyk.   Van Wyk

    A man and woman have been killed in Portlands, Mitchells Plain. An unidentified man in his 40’s died at the scene on Golden Gate Way, while a 24-year-old woman succumbed to her wounds, in the hospital earlier this week. The Police’s Captain FC Van Wyk says officers were called out to an address and when they arrived there, they discovered an unidentified male person, with multiple gunshot wounds to the head.   A

    The Western Cape High Court has sentenced the killers of 31-year-old Christine Gumirah, who was gunned down outside the Wynberg Magistrates Court, to life behind bars.    This follows the court’s last Thursday conviction of Mandisi Mofu, Lukhanye Meme and Vuminkosi Vumane for her premeditated murder.     Gumirah was about to be placed in a witness protection programme as a Section 204 witness in a murder case.    Mofu was found guilty
