SASSA has announced that it will introduce mandatory Beneficiary Biometric Enrolment in all its offices from 1 September. The agency says this is set to revolutionise the administration of social grants, as the biometric enrolment will detect any potentially fraudulent activities in the SASSA’s grant system. The introduction of Biometric Enrolment comes after a series of engagements with organised labour on a number of issues, which SASSA says have since been resolved.

Anti-Gang unit detectives are investigating a deadly gang-related shooting outside the Mitchells Plain on Monday, 25 August. According to reports, at about 11:15, two men, who had just appeared in court, were leaving the building and stood outside for a while. Four armed suspects surprised them and fired numerous gunshots. One man died on the scene, while the second victim was transported to a nearby hospital with serious gunshot wounds.
