    A prison escape in the Western Cape ended in the death of 23-year-old inmate Graine Martin, just hours after fleeing from Allandale Correctional Centre in Paarl.    The Department of Correctional Services, Singabakho Nxumalo, confirmed that Martin, who was serving a 12-year sentence for assault and theft, managed to escape on Tuesday morning while working as part of the prison’s agricultural team.     He had been admitted to custody in August 2023.

  The City of Cape Town today celebrated the graduation parade of over 700 new City police officers who will, in the coming weeks, begin their deployment across the city.   This new deployment includes dedicated neighbourhood policing for every ward, a historic first.   Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis joined new Metro Police officers at their graduation parade at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday, 9 September, together with JP Smith, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security.

  Cape Town motorists can now renew their vehicle licence discs without leaving their cars, as the City of Cape Town launches its first-ever drive-through licensing facility in Brackenfell.   Located on the corner of Reservoir and Kruispad Roads, the new service promises faster transactions, with renewals expected to take less than five minutes if all documents are in order.   The drive-through operates Mondays to Fridays from 11:30 to 19:30, and on Saturdays from

    With rampant gun violence plaguing Cape Town, the City has warned that urgent measures are required to address the flow of illegal firearms across its communities.    In just seven days, the City’s enforcement agencies confiscated eight firearms in neighbourhoods already grappling with deadly shootings.     “Law Enforcement officers recovered six firearms in the past week in Lavender Hill, Eastridge, Manenberg, Lentegeur and Atlantis,” the City confirmed in a statement.
