With only 3 weeks to go to the start of the 2025 matric exams, the Western Cape Education Department has appealed to candidates not to cheat. Candidates are asked to sign two documents: A Matric Pledge and a Commitment Agreement. The matric pledge is a document signed by the candidate, in which they promise to dedicate themselves to their studies for their exams and do their very best to follow the rules

With continued firefighting efforts into the early hours of Tuesday morning, the wildfire in Camps Bay has been contained. The fire broke out near Pipe Track on Monday afternoon. According to ward councillor, Nicola Jowell, about 90 firefighters from several crews, as well as aerial resources, were deployed the battle the blaze. The Western Cape is set to swelter under scorching temperatures on Tuesday, with authorities warning of potential health and environmental risks. According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), hot to very hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the West Coast, City of Cape Town and western parts of the Cape Winelands Districts. In some areas, “extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected in the Matzikama and Bergrivier municipalities”.
The City of Cape Town has removed more than 40 tonnes of waste, including rags, nappies and wet wipes, from Manenberg’s sewer system during a large-scale cleaning operation aimed at preventing a collapse and protecting public health. Over July and August 2025, the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate carried out a “bucketing” exercise on a bulk sewer line in Surrey Estate. The line runs from Manenberg to the Bridgetown pump station in Athlone.
