The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a safety recall affecting certain Nissan Qashqai, Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600 vehicles sold through authorised dealerships in South Africa.

Consumers who own the affected vehicles have been urged to take them to their nearest authorised Nissan or Toyota dealership for a free inspection and any necessary repairs.

Nissan Qashqai recall

Nissan is recalling 314 Qashqai Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) as part of an expanded recall campaign first announced in October 2025.

According to the manufacturer, there is a possibility that the fuel pipe can move within its retaining clip while the engine is running. Over time, this movement may cause the pipe to wear through, potentially resulting in a fuel leak.

The latest recall introduces a permanent repair to replace the temporary fix implemented during the previous campaign.

The affected Nissan Qashqai vehicles were sold between 4 May 2021 and 17 September 2024.

Toyota and Lexus recalls

Toyota South Africa has recalled 507 Toyota Land Cruiser 300 vehicles, while Lexus South Africa is recalling 124 Lexus LX600 vehicles.

The Land Cruiser models were sold between 13 December 2022 and 7 May 2024, while the affected Lexus LX600 vehicles were sold between 15 December 2022 and 7 May 2024. Some Lexus vehicles were also exported to Botswana and Namibia.

According to Toyota, the affected vehicles are equipped with a V35A engine that may contain machining debris left behind during manufacturing. If the debris contaminates the engine’s crankshaft main bearings, it could lead to bearing failure over time.

This may result in engine knocking, rough engine operation, difficulty starting the vehicle or the engine stalling while driving. Toyota warned that an engine stall at higher speeds could increase the risk of a crash due to a loss of motive power.

Consumers urged to act

The NCC has urged owners of affected vehicles to arrange an inspection at an authorised dealership as soon as possible.

All inspections and repairs related to the recall will be carried out at no cost to consumers.
