A Stellenbosch Municipality staff member has been attacked in Kayamandi. This marks yet another violent incident targeting municipal figures in the town.

Police confirmed that the official was shot outside his home in Sitona Street on Monday afternoon.

“Circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Monday, 2025-08-18 at about 15:15 in front of a premises in Sitona Street, Kayamandi where an adult male was shot and injured are under investigation,” said Western Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg.

The man, who has not yet been officially named, was rushed to a nearby medical facility in a private vehicle. A case of attempted murder has been opened, and the motive for the attack remains unclear.

No arrests have been made.

The Stellenbosch Municipality expressed its shock, confirming that the victim was one of its employees.

“We are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting of a Stellenbosch Municipality staff member, which took place earlier this afternoon at his home in Kayamandi while he was off duty,” the Municipality said in a statement.

The Municipality added that it would work closely with the police to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and colleagues during this difficult time.”

This latest attack comes against the backdrop of previous fatal incidents in Kayamandi involving municipal figures this year. In June, former deputy mayor and councillor Nyaniso Jindela was shot and killed in Vineyard Street. At the time of his murder, the motive was unknown.
