Another policeman and a former policeman have been arrested on charges of corruption
Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi says there are allegations that a Detective Constable at Thembalethu SAPS, who recently resigned, has been implicated in a probe into an alleged assault. The former officer had apparently told the suspects in the case to apologise to the complainant and pay R2500 to make the case disappear. It is then alleged that the suspects paid the money to the detective for him to give to the complainant, but he never did.
Related to an assault case
Vukubi added that a colleague of the former officer had become aware of the complainant (a woman) in the assault case when a complaint was laid against his colleague by the woman. It’s further alleged that the detective had allegedly intimidated and improperly persuaded the complainant to influence her testimony against his colleague, who is an ex-detective.
George Magistrate’s Court
The two officers, one current and one a former one, were arrested on 10 June 2025 by the Hawks’ George-based Serious Corruption Investigation team on charges of corruption. He says they will appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on 11 June 2025. Meanwhile, the Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Western Cape, Major General Makgato, has welcomed the arrest of the 2 suspects.
