An administrative clerk from the Kraaifontein Police Station has been killed in a parking lot in Athlone, in broad daylight. The shooting incident took place near the Gatesville Mosque yesterday.

According to police spokesperson Lt Col Malcolm Pojie, the 35-year-old woman and another female were busy getting out of a vehicle. It’s believed that two armed men had approached them as they were getting out of the car.

 

Shooting incident in the parking lot next to the Mosque

 

Police Management in the Western Cape has expressed its shock following the shooting incident in the parking lot next to the Mosque. Lt Col Pojie says the 35-year-old female administrative clerk attached to Kraaifontein SAPS died at the scene. The incident happened about a quarter to two in the afternoon.

 

Another woman wounded

 

At the same time, a 56-year-old woman was wounded and taken to the hospital. Malcolm Pojie says cases of murder and attempted murder will be investigated by detectives attached to the Anti-Gang Unit.

He says, according to preliminary information, 2 armed men had accosted the deceased as she and the wounded woman alighted from the vehicle they were travelling in.  No one was arrested.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Police.

Pojie added, “We appeal to anyone with information to contact Crime Stop anonymously at 08600 10111 or on the MySAPS mobile application.”
