Amount of ammunition seized has seen an over 150%-increase

The amount of ammunition seized in Cape Town over a 12-month-period has seen an over 150%-increase. The Safety and Security Mayco Member, JP Smith says the confiscations were recorded from July last year to June this year. More than 5 000 rounds of ammunition were seized.

At the same time, law enforcement officers made more than 12 000 arrests, over the same 1-year-period. But Smith is more concerned about the ammunition that saw such a dramatic increase.

He says officers also confiscated 177 illegal firearms and 73 imitation firearms, over the mentioned period. The 12-month-statistics also show that law enforcement officers have confiscated more than 41 000 units of drugs.

At the same time, they also seized over 2 000 kilograms of stolen metal. The Safety & Security Mayco Member, JP Smith says members were busy from animals and stolen metals to drugs and liquor:
